Ramadan 2012 Programme

The Claremont Main Road Masjid's 2012 Ramadan Sunday Morning Seminar Programme. Our focus this year is on the work and thought of Imam Abu Hamid Muhammad al-Ghazali (1058-1111 C.E).

Imam al-Ghazali is arguably one of the most influential thinkers and authoritative interpreters of Islam during the classical period of Islamic history and one of the key objectives of this year’s focus is to contribute towards the construction of an intellectual tradition that is firmly grounded in classical Islamic thought, but remains critically engaged in post-modern ideas.

Our seminar format will consist of two parts.

  • Reading Group: Convening at 10am - 11:30am and analysing Professor Ebrahim Moosa’s Ghazali and the Poetics of Imagination with specific attention to the Introduction, Chapter One and Conclusion.

  • Lectures: Starting at 11:30pm – 1pm, lectures delivered by Imam Dr. Rashied Omar and Shaykh Sadullah Khan. The lectures will focus on two extracts from Imam Ghazali's work, Fasting from his magnum opus, Ihya Ulum al-Din, and a small extract from Ayyuhal Walad. CMRM's 2012 Ramadan seminar series will conclude with a live skype link up with Professor Ebrahim Moosa from the US on 4 August.
